PURPOSE:To improve the ductility and fracture toughness value of a titanium alloy, by subjecting a titanium alloy to low-temp. ageing treatment and then to high-temp. ageing treatment. CONSTITUTION:A titanium alloy (particularly beta-titanium alloy represented by Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al) is held at about 300 deg.C for about 1hr to undergo low-temp. ageing treatment and is further held at about 510 deg.C for about 8hr to undergo high-temp. ageing treatment, followed by air cooling down to room temp. By the above two-stage ageing treatment, alpha-phase can be finely and uniformly distributed and the ductility and fracture toughness value of the titanium alloy can be improved.
