PURPOSE:To decrease the absorption on a long wavelength side of a magenta dye by making combination use of prescribed magenta couplers and specific compds. CONSTITUTION:=1 kinds of the pyrazoloazole magenta couplers expressed by the formula I and =1 kinds of the compds. expressed by the formula II are both incorporated into at least one layers of silver halide emulsion layers. In the formula I, Z denotes a non-metallic atom group necessary for forming a nitrogenous heterocycle; X denotes H, a group which can be eliminated by reaction with the oxidant of a color developing agent; R denotes H, substituent; in the formula II, X denotes N, CH; Y1-Y4 denote H, substituent; (l) denotes 1-4; (m) denotes 1-3; (n) denotes 2-4. The max. absorption wavelength of the magenta dye obtd. from the couplers expressed by the formula I shifts to a short wavelength side and the absorption on the long wavelength side decreases as well when the compds. expressed by the formula II are used in combination and, therefore, the color reproducibility is improved. The above- mentioned color formability and the preservable property of the image are are improved as well.
