Laser device with continuous wave dye laser output - has dye laser pumped by frequency doubled light from solid state infrared laser

A laser device of the type in which a first laser (2) causes excitation of a continuous wave (CW) dye laser (3), consists principally of a combination of (1) a CW frequency doubled laser, (2) comprising a laser resonator cavity (6), a laser source (7) mounted in the laser resonator-cavity (6) with an active laser medium (8) of solid material which generates a light beam (19) of non polarised light having a fundamental frequency, and a frequency doubling crystal (9) in the laser -resonator-cavity (6) which converts parts of the light in the light beam (19) generated by the laser source (7) into light with double the frequency, and optical means which takes the frequency-doubled light beam (22) out of the laser-resonator-cavity (6) and which reflects the part of the light in the original laser beam (19) which has not been frequency doubled in its non polarised form back into the laser source (7), whereby all light that still exhibits the fundamental frequency is maintained in its non-polarised state over the whole laser-resonator-cavity (6); and (11) a dye-laser (3) which is pumped by focusing the said light beam (22) with the frequency-doubled light from the first laser (2) onto the dye cell (14) of the dye laser (3), the light beam (23) generated in the dye laser (3) forming the output (24) from the laser device (1).
