The microscope has a light source coupled into an optical path (MI) of the microscope by a monomode optical fiber (F), and an UV illumination beam path. The light source is a diode pumped solid state (DPSS) laser (L) with frequency multiplication in a continuous wave drive, and is coupled into a scan head of the microscope by the monomode optical fiber. The frequency multiplication is enabled by nonlinear optical elements, and frequency doubling or triplication is done for producing UV radiation. An acousto-optical element of the light source is downstream before or after the optical fiber.
