The food heating apparatus comprises a source of microwave radiation operable to supply radiation at a substantially constant frequency. A number of food-receiving cavities have at least one lid provided with radiation-confining choke device to enable food to be introduced into the cavity and removed. Wave guides connect e the source to a first of the cavities and the cavities together in series. Each cavity is arranged to resonatee when empty at the frequency of the radiation and the wave guides each having a length which is an odd number of multiples of the quarter guide wavelength of the radiation so that radiation can be transmitted to any of the cavities which contains food.
