CLEAR MICELLIZED SOLUTIONS OF FAT SOLUBLE ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREMicellized aqueous formulations for fat soluble vitamins,essential nutrients, herb oils and pharmaceutical agents areobtained by a process wherein the fat soluble vitamin, essentialnutrient or agent is first admixed with a suitable amount ofpolyethoxylated castor oil and a pharmaceutically acceptablepolyol, such as glycerol to provide a non-aqueous phase.Thereafter, an aqueous phase containing mostly water and option-ally a preservative, such as sodium benzoate, is slowly added tothe agitated non-aqueous phase in such a manner that the temper-ature of the non-aqueous phase, including the aqueous phaseadded thereto, is maintained at an elevated temperature, pref-erably between approximately 60 to 100°C. After cooling, thefinal admixture is clear, homogeneous, having micelles ofapproximately 2 microns or smaller size. Human subjects exhibitsignificantly higher blood plasma levels of vitamins A and Eafter ingestion of the formulation of the present invention,after ingestion of comparable doses of prior art vitamin Aand E formulations.
