The discharge device for free-flowing bulk material which is piled up to form a heap of bulk material has, in the bottom region of the heap of bulk material, at least one (preferably a plurality of parallel) discharge tunnel (1) having a discharge conveyor (scraper conveyor) located therein, the discharge tunnels being provided with lateral bulk-material supply openings (5). According to the invention, these bulk-material supply openings (5) can be closed by means of raisable and lowerable slide plates (15), there being used for the purpose of raising the slide plates into their open position an adjusting apparatus, preferably in the form of a traveller (18) which can be moved longitudinally through the discharge tunnel and is provided with wedge shoes (28) so that, during its travelling motion, rollers (30) or the like arranged on the slide plates (15) are raised over the wedge surfaces of the wedge shoes and thus the slide plates are moved into the open position.
