Asbestos-Containing Materials in School Buildings: Bulk Sample Analysis QualityAssurance Program. Bulk Sample Rounds 16, 17 and 18

The report presents the performance results of laboratories participating in thesixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth rounds of the Bulk Sample Analysis Quality Assurance Program sponsored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA). Round 16 of the program operated along the guidelines established in previous rounds and was a voluntary quality assurance program. The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA), directed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to establish and maintain a laboratory accreditation program for bulk sample analysis of asbestos. The program began in October 1988 by evaluating enrolled polariscope laboratories in the interim prior to the initiation of the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for bulk asbestos laboratories, sponsored by NIST.
