In the case of motorised gliders having a retractable engine, the blade (4) of the propeller (4) must be aligned in the longitudinal direction of the aircraft fuselage in order to fit into the opening which is provided for accommodating the engine in the fuselage (3). Until now, this required position could be reached only by deliberately braking the propeller with the engine shut down. If it stopped in an incorrect position, the engine either had to be started again or the airspeed had to be increased to such an extent that it was possible for the propeller to be rotated, against the engine compression, by the wind of motion. Propeller positioning is simplified and speeded up by the compression chambers of the combustion engine (1) being provided with vent valves (7) and, furthermore, by being possible to move a stop (8), which predetermines the desired final position of the propeller (4), into the plane of propeller rotation, when the vent valves (7) are open. In this way it is possible to pivot the engine inwards (retract the engine) with the propeller positioned automatically. IMAGE
