The invention relates to an adaptation capable of being integrated rapidly into any existing installation, or equipping tap sets from manufacture. Hence its aim is the conversion, at will, in a fraction of a second, of a conventional system into an automatic system and conversely. To this end, the supply 1 to the taps 2 is fitted with solenoid valves 3 driven by an optical system 4 which can be instantaneously put "into" or "out of" service by means of a switch 5. In both cases, the taps retain their function of adjusting the flow rate and temperature. In the automatic position 5, closed 5.1, it is the presence of "the object" to be washed in the sensitive area 7, under the spout 6 which gives the turn-on command. In the conventional position 5, open 5.0, the solenoid valves 3 are open and the taps 2 are independent. This apparatus, via its flexibility, exhibits all the many advantages of conventional taps, and of automatic systems while avoiding each of their drawbacks: heavy consumption for the former, lack of flexibility in use for the latter.
