Consecutive signal components are digitally captured and the signals are subjected to a fast Fourier transform in which the numbers of measurement values of each signal component capturing the fundamental period are arranged in a repetitive sequence until a number suitable for the fast Fourier transform is reached or even exceeded. The signal series thus composed is subjected to the fast Fourier transform. The analog-digital conversion of the signal which is to be analysed is carried out with a sampling frequency which is higher than would be necessary according to the requirement of the sampling theorem for the highest frequency to be analysed.
