Time Variation of the Fine Structure Constant and Spectral Lines from Quasi - Stellar Objects

A larger time variation of a (proportional to t) was speculated some year’s ago2, and various objections to such a possibility were raised subsequently, from the data of the terrestrial occurrence of certain nuclei on the earth3 and from the fine-structure of spectral lines 4,5 of quasi- stellar objects (QSO). In this note, we point out that anA more accurate measurement of QSO spectra is needed to test the assumption (I).
