P This is a coal felling installation comprising an endless chain circulating on chain wheels, a main drive device being assigned to one of the chain wheels, and an auxiliary drive device being assigned to the other chain wheel. There is only one gear stage of the secondary drive device which is constituted by a take-up gear train. However, on the take-up input of this take-up gear train, an adjustable low-power electric motor works, in connection with a worm gear so that, thanks to a regulation of the drive of a only on one side, the synchronous operation of the main drive device and the secondary drive device, respectively of the drive motors, is obtained and that consequently an equal distribution of power and load is ensured independently of the wear on chain and chain wheels. /P
