A photosensitive member comprising an electrically conductive substrate, a charge generating layer and a charge transporting layer comprising amorphous carbon which contains hydrogen.PPThe charge transporting layer contains about 0.1 to about 10 atomic % of chalcogen atoms or transition metal elements based on all the constituent atoms therein.PPThe photosensitive member of this construction is excellent in electrophotographic characteristics inclusive of charge transportability and charging ability.
