PURPOSE:To enable automatic and highly-precise measurement of the thickness of a workpiece by moving a nozzle to the vicinity of a place of measurement on the surface of the workpiece by an NC control device, by jetting a coolant to said place of measurement and by pressing an ultrasonic probe thereon with a prescribed pressing force. CONSTITUTION:A case 3 is fitted to the lower end of the main body 2 of a head, a case 4 for accommodating a probe 5 of an ultrasonic thickness gage is provided in the lower part of the case 3, the probe 5 is connected to the ultrasonic thickness gage 21, and a spring 17 presses the probe 5 with a prescribed pressing force when the fore end of the probe 5 is brought into contact with a place to be measured, so as to measure a thickness. A nozzle 16 is provided so that a coolant be jetted toward the place of measurement through a pipe 15. An NC control device 22 calculates an error in an arithmetic element 22b from set data stored in a storage element 22c and from measured data sent from the ultrasonic thickness gage 21, and outputs the result of calculation to a printer 23.
