TISSUE CULTURE OF SAFFRON AND PREPARATION OF USEFUL COMPONENT IN SAFFRON

PURPOSE:To carry out the tissue culture of a saffron over a year in a high multiplication efficiency without being affected with weather and collect useful components such as a colorant from regenerated styles by culturing the perianth of the saffron to regenerate the styles. CONSTITUTION:Perianthes aseptically picked out from flower buds budded from the bulbs of, for example, a non-flowered saffron a saffron are divided into pieces having a suitable size. The pieces are cultured in an artificial medium containing ammonia as a nitrogen source and further containing an auxin such as 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid or 1-naphthaleneacetic acid and a cytokinin such as benzyladenine to regenerate styles, from which useful components of the saffron such as a colorant are collected.
