PURPOSE:To instantaneously spread a molten under stable conditions by using a weakly acidic soln. or melt of a metal salt having a high content of metal ion, and simultaneously decreasing the surface tension of the molten metal and heat-insulating the molten metal before contact of the molten metal with a metal to be worked. CONSTITUTION:A specified DC voltage (lower than a voltage at which Zn is deposited) is applied between Zn as an anode and Pb as a cathode in an aq. HCl soln. to electrolyze the soln. with Zn and to neutralize the soln., Zn is dissolved in the soln. to about 6.7pH, and a soln. or melt having a high content of metal ion is prepared. A steel sheet, etc., as a metal to be worked are placed in the soln. or melt, the droplets of the molten Zn obtained by melting Zn with an arc are added from the upper part, allowed to contact with the steel sheet, and the whole surface (including the back) of the steel sheet can be completely covered with Zn in an instant. By this method, the surface treatment, welding, etc., among general working processes for a metallic material to be worked are simplified, and the operation can be sped up.
