PURPOSE: To increase the transshipment amount of products by providing vertical and horizontal conveying lines in one or plural standby paths for a transport means returned along a conveying path of a single lane, arranging a transfer point in the crossing area, and changing a cargo receiving means of a transfer means. CONSTITUTION: A loading station 10 is provided at the lower end of a vertical conveying line 1 between loading and unloading of a conveying system. A transfer means T1 is conveyed upward by a cargo receiving means L1, and on reaching a transfer point 4, it is immediately transferred to a cargo receiving means L2 for horizontal conveying. In unloading work, the empty transfer means T2 reaches a standby station 3 from a horizontal conveying article carry- out port through a line 2 and the transfer point 4 immediately before the completion of lifting work of the loading transfer means T1, and returns to the transfer point 4 after being passed through the T1 to be handed over to a cargo receiving means L1 for lowering. Also at the other end of the variable length line 2, this work is similarly performed.
