GRANULAR JAPANESE HERB MEDICINE AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain granular Japanese herb medicine being readily administered, conveniently portable, being expected to have the same effects as those of ordinary decoction by blending fine powder of medicinal plant with decocted juice of coarse powder of the medicinal powder and granulating. CONSTITUTION:A dried medicinal plant (e.g., Houttuynia cordata, Geranium thunbergii Sieb. or Swertia japonica Maxim) is ground into powdered state and divided into fine powder having =0.2mm particle diameter and coarse powder having =0.2mm particle diameter. Decocted juice is extracted from the coarse powder by the same procedure as that of ordinary decoction and the decocted juice is used as a binder to granulate the fine powder. The amount of the decocted juice used is preferably 2-3 times as much as the fine powder by weight.
