ABSTRACTHYPEROSMOTIC/HYPERONCOTIC SOLUTIONS FORRESUSCITATION OF HYPODYNAMIC SHOCKA physiologically acceptable solution whichis both hyperosmotic and hyperoncotic with respect toblood plasma and has utility in treating patientsexperiencing or threatening to experience hypodynamicshock. The physiologically acceptable solutioncomprises a hyperosmotic concentration of acrystalloid (in excess of about 1800 mOsms) andhyperoncotic concentration of a colloid (in excess ofabout 30 mm Hg). The physiologically acceptablesolution is easily administered by single, rapidinfusion of approximately 4 to 5 ml/kg of body weightand results in a rapid and sustained normalization ofcirculatory function.
