The invention relates to dihalogeno-3,3 fluoro-2 propenol-1 having the formula X1X2C=CF-CH¿2?OH (I), wherein X?1 and X2¿, which may be identical or different, represent a fluorine, a chlorine or a bromine atom providing that X?1 and X2¿ do not represent both a chlorine atom. These compounds may be prepared by reaction of an alcohol having the formula HCH?1X2-CFX3-CH¿2OH (II), X?1 and X2¿ have the meaning given hereabove and X3 is a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom, similar to or different from X1 and/or X2, with an organolithian compound. They may be used to prepare halides of the fluoro-2 acrylic acid and of the dihalogeno-3,3 fluoro-2 acrylic acids or their esters.
