During the performance and/or recording of a television programme for subsequent transmission, the title of the programme is generally cited only in the leader credits. The aim of the invention is to provide a television programme, which is to be played and/or recorded, with an associated title statement. The data for a title statement are extracted (7) from transmitted programme preview tables of the television text signal and inserted in the video signal (3) of the programme during performance (11) and/or recording (14) of the corresponding programme. The size and arrangement of the lettering are determined by means of a manipulation circuit (8) and a microprocessor (6).
