A road traffic sign has a generator (2) that is solar battery powered (3,4,5). Coupled to the generator is a transmitter (1) sending a modulated signal received by a unit located within the road vehicles (7). The receiver module (9) relays the signal to a serial-to-parallel converter (10). A microcomputer (11) responds to the code to access stored warning data with a ROM (12). The information is relayed to a regulator (13) coupled to LCD in the vehicle.
