Method for determining a gene locus of variable length in a DNA sequence and optionally labelled nucleotide sequences for identifying such a gene locus

A method for detecting the presence of an unknown locus of variable length in a DNA sequence with at least one known locus. The method can be used in particular for detecting informative gene loci, for example minisatellite or VNTR regions. The invention also relates to loci of variable length which are found by a method of this type, and to the corresponding hybridisation probes. The latter can be used in genetic characterisation methods and in the diagnosis and therapy of genetic disorders and cancer.
