Hot rolled grain oriented Si steel is mfd. by: heating a slab of Si steel to 1260-1400 deg. C in a hearth furnace; blowing O2-enriched gas contg. at least 30%, pref. at least 40%, and esp. at least 50% O2 on the slab at a velocity of at least 460, pref. at least 550 n/min, for at least 1 sec., pref. 1-3sec. after exiting the furnace; removing surface oxides from the slab; and hot rolling. -
