Before a catheter is inserted into a vein in the arm or leg of a patient, the flow of blood is restricted by a device strapped around the arm or leg. The device consists of a strap (3) with the ends of the strap threaded through a ring (5). This ring is fitted over a cylindrical block (1) with two diametrically opposite flat surfaces to receive the ends of the strap (3). The tube (2) with an internal screw thread engages ridges on the outer surfaces of the ends of the strap (3). This tube is held in place by an end cap (6) and screw (12) which enables the degree of tightness of the strap to be adjusted. USE - Preparation for the insertion of a catheter.
