The subject of the present invention is a self-propelled handling straddling machine for transporting agricultural or other appliances and an appliance provided with fittings for being transported by the said straddling machine. The self-propelled straddling machine is made up of a chassis mounted on rolling members 6 provided along the axis of forward travel with a housing 7 which is open towards the front and the ground for straddling the appliance to be handled, the said chassis being provided in addition with means for gripping and lifting into the housing the appliance to be transported and with means 9 for immobilising the appliance in the housing.
