PURPOSE:To reduce the setting space of the self heating annealing furnace by successively placing forged parts into plural containers, intermittently introducing the containers into a vertical treating chamber, annealing the part by self heating with its remaining heat while traveling the containers in the chamber and discharging the annealed part outside the chamber. CONSTITUTION:The upper sprocket 61 in the vertical treating chamber 22 is intermittently traveled to intermittently travel plural receivers 81 through a conveyor member 71. When the sprockets 61 and 62 are stopped and the ascending receiver 81 is stopped in an antiroom 52, a door 35 is opened, and the forged part A on a feeder 91 is forced into the receiver 81 from a feed port 33. The part A and receiver 81 are then introduced into the chamber 22 from an inlet 31, the receiver 81 is raised, turned and lowered, and the descending part is slowly cooled while giving off its remaining heat and annealed.
