NEW MATERIAL:The steroid compound of formula I (Y is antigenic protein). EXAMPLE:17alpha-Hydroxyprogesterone-11-hemisuccinate-BSA. USE:Antigen for the determination of 17alpha-hydroxyprogesterone. An antiserum capable of specifically reacting with 17alpha-hydroxyprogesterone. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by treating the compound of formula II with an alkyl halocarbonate (e.g. isobutylchloroformate) to activate the carboxyl group of the 11-side chain, and bonding the compound with an antigenic protein such as BSA (bovine serum albumin), RSA (rabbit serum albumin), HSA (human serum albumin), etc., e.g. by dissolving the protein in a mixture of water and an organic solvent, and dripping the treated compound of formula II to the solution. The detection and determination of the titled compound can be carried out in extremely high sensitivity and selectivity by the immunoassay using said bonded product as an antigen.
