PURPOSE:To make a carrier nearly independent of counter charges and to improve the halftone of an image by using a magnetic carrier contg. a photoconductive material. CONSTITUTION:A carrier is composed essentially of a magnetic body such as iron powder and resin such as silicone resin and a photoconductive material such as a phthalocyanine dye is incorporated into the resin. This photoconductive material may be contained in a coating layer for coating the core material of the carrier or a binder type resin contg. the ;magnetic body in a dispersed state. An insulating toner is mixed with the carrier and stirred under no photoirradiation at the time of triboelectric charge and the toner/ carrier mixture is preferably irradiated with light immediately before development.
