PURPOSE: To control a lepidopterous insect pests by bringing an effective amount of a separated body of a specific Bacillus thuringiensis into contact with the insect pests. CONSTITUTION: An effective amount for controlling insect pests of Bacillus thuringiensis PS81A2 (NRRL B-18,457) or Bacillus thuringiensis PS81RR1 (NRRL B'-18458) or its anascospore and/or phage-resistant mutation is brought into contact with an environment of target insect pests to control lepidopterous insect pests. A microorganism of a procaryote or an eukaryote incorporated with a gene coding for a lepidopterous activity toxin derived from the separated body of Bacillus thuringiensis is applied to the zone of a leaf face and root of a crop, the gene for expressing a polypeptide insecticide is stably maintained and expressed to control insect pests living in the zone of the leaf face and the root of the crop.
