The purpose of the invention is to improve the method of preparation of extra-cellular polysaccharide and cellular biomass and to increase their recovery. The given objective is achieved by cultivating a productive synchronous culture of Rhodella grisea algae with a suspension density of 0.3 to 1.1 g.l-1 dry weight of cells at 15 to 35 degrees C in at least 3 cycles of 7 to 9 hours light at an intensity of at least 70 W.m-2 of photosynthetic active radiation and 15 to 17 hours darkness, with the produced biomass collected during the dark. Preferably a clone of Rhodella grisea algae HK 1983/1/7 is cultivated. The method of preparation of extra-cellular polysaccharide and cellular biomass by synchronous culture of Rhodella grisea algae can be used in agriculture, the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry.
