AN IMPROVED COMPUTERISED SYSTEM FOR THE SEQUENTIAL CONTROL AND MONITORING OF DISCRETE DEVICES

An automatic system (10) for the control and fault detection of discrete devices (e.g. 14) used by a batch process eliminates extensive function block configurations and system loading in process control systems. The system (10) includes at least one assembly for monitoring the discrete devices (e.g. 14), the assembly comprising plural monitoring apparatuses (e.g. 32). Further, the system (10) includes means (44, 50, 38) for matching the monitoring apparatuses (e.g. 32) of the monitoring devices (e.g. 14) to the discrete devices (e.g. 14) on a one to one basis whereby one monitoring apparatus monitors one discrete device, and means (56, 58, 26) for controlling the monitoring assembly.
