A basin or manhole structure having at least one channel section (10) for the transport of sewage or drainage water, wherein the channel section comprises a number of circle-sector-like elements (A-C) constituting a 360 DEG element. The segments form two separate channel courses (17, 18) extending peripherally along a respective circumferential part of the element, one channel course (17) having a direction of flow which is anticlockwise, and the other a clockwise direction. An arbitrary directional change between the inlet (11 resp. 12) and the outlet (13 resp. 14) is achieved by a mutual variation of the lengths of the channel courses (17, 18). The channel courses can be connected to a pair of drainage pipes (21, 22 resp. 23, 24) at the same level. Connection to branch pipes is achieved by assembly of a pair of channel sections above each other, the upper section then having an open connection to the underlying channel course. The basin structure preferably includes an upper basin section for water pipe fittings, the basin section being used as a lid over the uppermost channel section, and further being provided with a hatch/grating for access to underlying channel courses and with wall inlets for water pipes.
