A hoist intended to be fitted in garage ceilings for hoisting roof boxes 11 containing possible luggage from car roofs for temporary storage has two supporting rails 1a,1b arranged to be fixed in the garage ceiling essentially parallel with each other. The supporting rails have feed-through devices 6a,6b and 7a,7b at the ends. On the one supporting rail 1b there is a take-up roller 5, which can be rotated in both directions. Two supporting cables 2,3 are coupled to the take-up roller 5 in such a way that they are simultaneously wound onto and unwound from the take-up roller 5 when this is rotated in the respective direction. Each cable forms a closed loop, which passes through the take-up roller 5, a feed-through device 7a and 7b of the one supporting rail 1b, a feed- through device 6a and 6b of the second supporting rail 1a and back to the take-up roller 5 via the first-named feed- through device 7a and 7b respectively. A portion of each supporting cable 2,3 between the two supporting rails 1a,1b forms a suspension link for the roof box 11, which can be hoisted up and down by rotation of the take-up roller 5. IMAGE
