Distamycin A and synthetic derivatives thereof more specially, compounds of the following formula (I): IMAGE wherein n is an integer from 2 to 6; X is a (CH2)y-radical, wherein, y is an integer from 1 to 6, or a p-phenylene radical; R is a hydrogen atom or an acyl radical of an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid, having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, are useful in the prophylaxis and treatment of malaria.
