ABSTRACTA rechargeable electrochemical cell a positiveelectrode, an alkaline electrolyte and a negative electrodemade mainly of a hydrogen absorbing alloy containing amixture of at least two rare earth elements including Cewhose content relative to the total amount of rare earthelements is less than 40wt% and is preferably 0.1wt% to12wt% or in the range 0.1-8wt%, which gives still bettercapacity and life characteristics. Moreover, largercapacity characteristics can be obtained if the negativeelectrode contains a conductive powder preferably with anaverage particle diameter of 10µm or less as a subsidiarymaterial.
