ABSTRACTA window has an inner sash and outer sashthat are removable from a frame. A pivotal step islocated along an outer surface of the inner sash. Fora double-hung window, there are two pivotal steps, onealong each side of the outer surface of the innersash. For a horizontal slider window, there is onepivotal step along a top of the outer surface of theinner sash. When the inner sash is tilted inward orremoved from the frame, the pivotal step can berotated inward to allow the outer sash to be tiltedinward or removed. When the pivotal step is in anoperating position in the window, it greatly reducesthe air flow from an exterior of the window to aninterior of the window around the sashes. Withprevious windows, there is no step immediatelyadjacent to an outer surface of the inner sash or, ifthere is such a step, the presence of the step makesthe removal of the sashes cumbersome.
