ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe weight of least mean square (LMS) adaptive filterare updated with a different set of taps than are used toform the output of the adaptive filter in the adaptiveprocessing device of the present invention. As a result ofperforming the multiplications and sums required for thefilter operation simultaneously, an integral number ofclock cycle delays appear in the narrowband and errorfeedback channels. The number of taps of the tapped delayline of the invention are increased, whereby the increaseddelay through the delay line may be used to compensate fora delay through the filter of an integral number of clockdelay cycles.Instantaneous weight updating in accordance with thesignal being utilized, may then be achieved at a clock ratefrequency that is ten times or more greater than prior artadaptive filters.
