The invention concerns a process and device for detecting and locating a bony region by ultrasonics. In the device there is at least one ultrasonic transducer element (12) fitted on means (14) for spatial movement, emitting signals received by processing means (18) in order to determine the co-ordinates of a bony region and to store the co-ordinates. The invention simplifies the detecting and locating procedure, and avoids the use of X-rays.
