The invention relates to a method and a device for detecting and locating a bony region by ultrasound. The apparatus is characterized in that it comprises at least one ultrasononore transducer element (12) mounted on means (14) for moving in space, transmitting signals which are received by means (18) for processing in order to determine the coordinates of a bony region, and to record these coordinates. The invention simplifies the detection and location procedure and avoids the use of X-rays
