This invention relates to an automated educational system (10) in which a remote student or subject can be interrogated by a central automated interrogation system (11), can respond using machine-distinguishable signals generated by a standard push button-type telephone (24), and in which an appropriate reaction to the answer chosen by the student can be communicated to the student.
