The closed display casing for illuminated pictures has an internal light source, and a front towards the observer formed by a flat and partly translucent mirror. With the light switched off this appears to the observer as a normal mirror. The picture (79 to be displayed is transparent, and is accommodated' in the casing between the front mirror (2) and a rear translucent plate (4). The light source is normally off, and has a proximity switch (6) by which it is switched on, on the observer's approach. ADVANTAGE - Switches on only when needed.
