In a folding hatch cover system in which hatch panels e.g. 3E, 3F fold a stow upright on one edge adjacent one end of the hatch and unfold one after another onto the the hatch coaming to lie flat and close the hatch, of each panel has end seal members 35E, 36F, 37E, 38F which are automatically engaged or disengaged by a link and cam mechanism when the panels move from the upright, stowed position to the horizontal, hatch-closing position or vice versa, so that the panels can be conveniently and smoothly handled for hatch opening and closing without the need of manual labour. Adjacent hatch panels are pivotally interconnected by a linkage which is displaced by a cam rail 19 on the storage end of the latch coaming. Three alternative linkage arrangements are described.
