Cellular electrochemical battery with separators - protects negative plates by complete enclosure of longitudinal edges in porous filled-polymer separator material

Each cell of the battery contains a set of electrodes constituted by adjacent plates (e.g. 20) of different polarity. Separators (1, 10) mfd. of undeformable porous material are arranged between the plates with their longitudinal edge regions (3,4; 13, 14) turned in towards the enclosed negative electrode plates (20). The edges of adjacent separators enveloping one plate (20) overlap in the assembled position. The longitudinal edges of the plates are covered completely by the sepn. material in the form of a labyrinth seal for protection. ADVANTAGE - Formation of growths on the negative plates is prevented in a particularly simple manner.
