Hardenable compsns (I) comprise (A) epoxide resin with more than 1 epoxy gp per mol, hardenable at room temp (B) monosubstd aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polyamine (II) contg at least 3 active H atoms and a substit, bound to N, of formula -CH2-0(0H)H-CH2-0R, R = branched or unbranched 1-30 C alkyl, 1 or more CH2 gps opt being substd by 0, (C) 20-300 wt%, on (B) N-butylbenzenesulphonamide (III). Pref (II) is used as prepd from corresp polyamine and glycidyl ether, without sepn of by-prods (I) contain fillers, pigments, and accelerators. USE/ADVANTAGE - Coatings, partic for roofs and floors, and adhesives, sealants, moulded articles. Cured prod has good adhesion, flexibility, impact toughness, and tensile strength, and is resistant to petrol. 1140 Pts (all pts wt) epoxide resin based on bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin, EP 0.53 was vigorously mixed with 800 pts reaction prod of 1 mol 2,2,2-/2,4,4-trimethylhexamethylene diamine and 1 mol lauryl glycidyl ether, 400 pts (III), and 2% (on (A) + (B) tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol, then after 10 mins, cast into layer 4 m thick and left to harden at 25 deg C. Transparent, nontacky prod had, after 7 days at 25 deg C, tensile strength 15.2 N/sq mm and extension 90% (DIN 53455), further tear resistance (DIN 53515) 62.5 N/sq mm, Shore D hardness (3 seconds, DIN 53505) 49.
