A baseplate (1) has side walls (2) with a pin (3) which provides the fulcrum for a bell crank lever (4) converting a horizontally applied force on arm (4a) into a vertical force at the roller (9). The roller (9) supports a hollow thrust rod (5) which is guided by bearings (6a,6b) in a vertical tubular slideway (7). The slideway (7) is partially slotted (8) to allow space for movement of the bell crank lever (4). A threaded rod (11) and lock nuts (12) allow the thrust plate (14) to be adjusted relative to the thrust rod (5). The end (4c) of the bell crank lever can be driven by a variety of power sources. USE/ADVANTAGE - Mechanical handling equipment, etc. Simple, compact design.
