The projectile (3) is accelerated along a tube (2) by the reaction of a plasma jet (14). This is produced by combustion of the material (32') in a space (32) contg. a helical connection (35) between the projectile's tip (30) or sleeve (31) and a rear electrode (34). The plasma is ejected from channels (36) within the insulation (33) around the electrode (34) set into it with a sealing ring (37). The electrode is pref. movable in the longitudinal direction to serve also as an injector piston. ADVANTAGE - Max. plasma pressure is produced over max. range with complete conversion of the material into propellant gas.
