摘要
Oil-in-water emulsion to be broken down in prepn. for legally acceptable discharge into the drainage system is electrically coagulated by an electrode operating at 12V D.C. with the emulsion pumped through. The electrode material has a woven carbon fibre layer acting as cathode, then intermediate non-conductive and final carbon-fibre layers where small oil droplets coagulate into larger drops detached by the flowing liq. Carbon fibre layers may be replaced by high-grade steel or other metals. The layers may form a three-layer corrugated element, folded in star shape, and terminated by closure caps, e.g. on the ends of a linear assembly of several open-ended corrugated elements. The breaking-down process may be combined with a chemical or electro-chemical procedure, or with membrane filtration. A stream of gas produced by electrolysis may be used in stripping coagulated oil droplets from the electrode. USE - Purificn. of metal working emulsion, compressed air prodn. codnensate etc. Resists reemulsification of sepd. oil.
