Calibrating two-dimensional test bodies whose shape elements must be measured from both sides of the body involves measuring the test body in three or more selected positions to eliminate all guidance errors in the plane of the measurement device. A test body whose shape elements need only by measured from one side is measured in two positions to eliminate perpendicularity errors, relative position arrors and those components of waw, pitch and straightness errors symmetrical to the direction of motion of the measurement device. ADVANTAGE - Range of method extended to rectangular objects.
